Which is about as generic as you can get, unfortunately. Basically, any solution here is going to involve tweaking something on your system so that either the graphics drivers go down a different path, or that whatever is messing with it now stops doing that. The gameplay carefully mixes together RPG mechanics, open-world exploration, tactical and exciting space combat with lots of ship and weapon variety and economics. I'm sorry that I don't have anything more concrete to suggest. Starsector, originally named Starfarer, is an absolutely brilliant top-down 2D open-world space game that's been going for years and a huge new release is finally out. Messing with any graphics settings you might have - such as the hardware acceleration level, plus whatever other settings you have available from the Intel card (which is probably not a lot) is also worth a shot. The usual things to try would be running in admin mode, and running in compatibility mode for windows 95. Though I'm assuming you've had the issue prior to bumping up the ram in vmparams, in which case your system probably has enough. How much ram do you have? If you're assigning too much of it and the video card doesn't have enough left that could cause a problem. This looks like the same issue as here:Īssuming you've looked at what else you've got running and that might be interfering (MSI Afterburner, an antivirus, that sort of thing)? This seems to have been occurring mainly when there are either a lot of ships involved or ships or certain size, because I could notice it happening most frequently when there are Onslaughts or Colossus MKIII involved.Īnybody happens to know a potential fix to this? It has been ocurring to me in vanilla gameplay, I assigned 4gb to VMParams and updated my PC's graphics drivers, although it is just a Laptop's Intel integrated graphics card. No crashing involved, just the screen failing and needing alt-f4 to close. When I tab out and back in, the screen turns back and after a few seconds the cursor, screen or both start to flicker. are Intel i9 10900kf ASUS ROG STRIX 3070. The game still plays sounds and acts as if things were running, the cursor is also visible moving around, but the game screen itself won't update. On PC, the game may freeze if the Quit to Desktop button is pressed. When playing, mainly during battles and sometimes when travelling around (although the last case I remember was with a big battle nearby) the screen freezes.
